The Topic of Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional for 10th August 2024 Is “A Lesson In Crisis Management”

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Proverbs 16; Proverbs 17; 1 John 5; 2 John 1

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Esther 4:1-8

1 When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry;
2 And came even before the king’s gate: for none might enter into the king’s gate clothed with sackcloth.
3 And in every province, whithersoever the king’s commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
4 So Esther’s maids and her chamberlains came and told it her. Then was the queen exceedingly grieved; and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackcloth from him: but he received it not.
5 Then called Esther for Hatach, one of the king’s chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and gave him a commandment to Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was.
6 So Hatach went forth to Mordecai unto the street of the city, which was before the king’s gate.
7 And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king’s treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them.
8 Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to shew it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.

MEMORY VERSE: Isaiah 58:1
Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES: What ought to be may never be if you are too complacent. Arise and do something because a stitch in time saves nine!

PRAISE AND WORSHIP:
Take praise and worship songs as led by the Holy Spirit.

PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY:
Any power that has vowed to punish you and your family for the sins of your forefathers shall die miserably, in the name of Jesus.

MFM DAILY DEVOTIONAL 10TH AUGUST 2024

Mordecai was a man of action and urgency. Haman, the embittered enemy of the Jews, had finished plans to eliminate not just Mordecai but the whole of the Jew’s race just because of one person’s offense. What a tragic level of bitterness! Mordecai heard the news and mourned greatly, not just because of himself but the whole race of innocent people, both young and old, that would be made to perish because of him – (Esther 3:13). Immediately Mordecai got the sad news, he swinged into action with urgency. He knew at that point that it was tragic to be dragging the feet when the king’s business required haste. This was a matter of life and death, not just for him but his whole lineage. He mourned and mourned publicly. He didn’t do silent prayers. He cried bitterly like a baby and proclaimed it for everybody to see. He wasn’t ashamed of his tears. He was not like King Hezekiah in Isaiah 39:5-8 who heard the news that would affect his posterity and began to rejoice that, at least, there would be peace in his own days.

Next, Mordecai got the copies of the necessary documents of the proof of Haman’s wicked decree and sent it to Esther (Esther 4:8). He did not just sit in a corner crying, giving in to fate, saying whatever will be will be. Beloved, whatever will be may not be, if you don’t take the necessary actions. Esther4:8 teaches us a whole lot on record keeping as Christians. If you have acquired any property for instance, it is your responsibility to obtain the necessary documents and keep them safe, you might need them as a proof later. Keep the documents of important things in your life, keep records, have journals, you might need them later. God will not do certain things for us because we are Christians, he expects us to use the intellect He has blessed us with to take charge of certain events of life. Mordecai took desperate steps and God honoured it in the end.

Next, he spoke the truth to power. When Esther wanted to act fearful, he spoke boldly to her to use her position to deliver God’s people. He also obeyed instructions put forward by Esther for him and others to fast and pray.
